About Us
Clinical Research Institute of Michigan, LLC (CRIM) was founded by CEO and Medical Director, Dr. Ronald P. Fogel in 2003. Under his direction our research team has taken part in over 200 clinical trials. In order to offer optimum research opportunities to the community, CRIM collaborates with several physicians around the Metro Detroit area. Our staff of highly qualified study coordinators and research assistants has over 40 years of combined research experience. Our efforts to advance medicine through research are frequently recognized by our clinical trial sponsors, as we’ve received numerous awards for high study enrollment.
MEET OUR DOCTORS
Gastroenterology

Dr. Fogel is dedicated to the prevention and aggressive treatment of gastrointestinal disease. His areas of specialty include the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, as well as screening and prevention/education for colon cancer. He is committed to providing the highest quality medical care with compassion and respect for patients and their families. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Fogel is also actively involved in research, having served as a principal investigator on over 300 clinical trials over the last 35 years.
Prior to founding the Digestive Health Center of Michigan, Dr. Fogel served as the head of gastroenterology services at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI for 13 years.

Dr. Wolgamott has served as a sub-investigator on multiple research trials here at CRIM. In addition to her daily schedule of patients, she is also a writer and speaker for the pharmaceutical industry.





Dr. Saxena has clinical interests in biliary disease, pancreatic lesions, endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP and enteral stenting.










Rheumatology

He also serves as a clinical instructor and Chief of Rheumatology at Ascension Saint John Hospital, Detroit and Assistant Clinical Professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, Michigan.
Dr. Sulich has performed as a principal investigator in 45 clinical trials. He is listed as a Top Doc for Rheumatology in Metro Detroit Hour Magazine.
He is a member of the American College of Internal Medicine, the American College of Rheumatology, Michigan State Medical Society, Arthritis Foundation, Wayne County Medical Society, Detroit Medical Club, and Bechet’s Foundation.

Dr. Filipof recently joined the CRIM staff as a principal investigator for our dermatology studies.
Optometry

Dr. Ratzenberger recently joined the CRIM team to serve as a principal investigator on our optometry clinical trials.
MEET OUR STAFF

Joe started his career in healthcare at William Beaumont Hospital, serving many years as an emergency room technician in their Level 1 trauma center where he focused primarily in the pediatric ER. His research career began in 2001, spanning over several areas of research including cardiology, vascular surgery, neurology, and digestive health. He has been a study coordinator on over 300 clinical trials, including research on the first drug coated cardiac stent and the first stent used to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms. Joe has worked on multiple studies in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health throughout his research career. In 2007, Joe joined the CRIM team as a research manager and study coordinator, turning his focus to GI medicine. Here at CRIM, Joe has utilized his knowledge of research and business to expand our research portfolio from just a handful of studies to over 200 clinical trials.
Although, he now serves as CRIM’s VP and COO, Joe remains humble in his roots, still seeing research patients on a daily basis. In this role, he is able to project his love and dedication to medicine and research by serving our patients.

Karie joined the Digestive Health Center of Michigan as a medical assistant in 2009. Her skills, knowledge, and personable nature were quickly recognized and she was put in charge of the practice’s Hepatitis C program in addition to her regular daily duties. Her role included patient teaching, ordering medications, overseeing prior authorizations, appeals, insurance verification and patient compliance. In 2013, she was asked to join the Clinical Research Institute of Michigan staff as a study coordinator.
Karie has obtained several research certifications and has served as a study coordinator on over 90 studies including Phase II, III and IV clinical trials. The praise and gratification she continually receives from her patients is a testimony to her character and her love of helping others.

Stacey is a native “Michigander” with a long history of “Texan” roots. Stacey obtained her professional development and educational profile while living in Houston Texas for 20 years to include educational studies at Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital, HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, Ashworth College in Norcross, GA, and Practice Management Institute, San Antonio Texas. Stacey has provided health management consulting services in Michigan and Texas over her career in the medical specialties of Neurology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Oncology, Allergy & Immunology, and Gastroenterology.
Stacey is driven to come to work every day to assist with making a financially sound structure for Clinical Research Institute of Michigan so our team of medical professionals of can drive the development and advancement of patient care options to the people of the communities we serve.

With 15 years of research experience, Aaron holds a national research certification from SOCRA (Society of Clinical Research Associates) and a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. Since 2008, he has worked on studies for many GI conditions including GERD, fatty liver disease (NASH), ulcerative colitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, IBS-C, IBS-D, and constipation. His primary focus, however, is Crohn’s disease.
Aaron came to CRIM after serving 6 years at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan where he conducted research in both cardiology and emergency medicine. During his time in cardiology research he worked in the cardiac cath lab doing interventional cardiology studies as well as cardiac pharmaceutical studies. Under the direction of a nationally recognized emergency medicine and research physician, Aaron became one of the pioneers of induced hypothermia in post cardiac arrest patients in the state of Michigan. Their team efforts were nationally recognized and published. In 2006 Aaron was invited to present their research in Washington DC at the annual meeting of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Aaron has taught several ECG interpretation classes for nurses, nurse assistants and resident physicians. He has worked as a staff educator in the trauma room, providing research presentations for new emergency room nurses and physician staff members at William Beaumont and Henry Ford hospitals.
Aaron believes that learning is invaluable and is committed to using his knowledge and passion toward medicine and research to help others.

Danielle oversees specimen processing and shipping in our lab. In addition, she interprets research protocols, converting the information into usable forms for collecting clinical trials data. When Danielle isn’t working, she enjoys attending concerts, exploring downtown venues, traveling and spending time with her dog. Danielle’s passion for serving the community makes her a perfect addition to the CRIM team.


Joachina oversees specimen processing and shipping in our lab. As well as interprets research protocols, converting the information into usable forms for collecting clinical trials data. She has a passion for learning and growing her knowledge. In Joachina’s free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and going up north.

In her spare time Sydney enjoys spending time with her rescue dogs and boating in the Summer months.
